Let the Cider Flow: Taverns in Early New England Society

November 12, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

An Old-Style Tavern Sign

The Lancaster Historical Society is proud to present a talk about taverns in early New England society at the First Church in Sterling, November 12, 2:00-3:00pm.

Tom Kelleher, curator at Old Sturbridge Village, will lead this fascination presentation on the role and significance of taverns in early New England Society. They were as numerous as churches, and played at least as large a role in the community’s public life.

Join us as we take a look inside the “public houses” which dotted the highways and center villages of virtually every town in New England, including typical food and drink, common topics discussed, and the kind of songs sung by the fire side.
