Ikebana International Show and Sale

The Boston Chapter of Ikebana International hosts a three-day show and sale at the New England Botanic Garden, October 13 through 15.

Ikebana, Japanese for “arranged flowers” or “living flowers,” considers characteristics of line, color, mass, and space as well as asymmetry to create harmonious natural arrangements. Ikebana has been practiced in Japan for centuries, and today it holds incredible importance in the hearts of many people worldwide. The Boston Chapter of Ikebana International focuses on three schools (disciplines) of Ikebana: Ikenobo, Ohara, and Sogetsu

The Show will start Friday 13 with a show and pottery sale 12:00-5:00, and a demonastration, “Ikenobo–Presented by a Visiting Professor from Japan”, 2:00-3:00.

The next day, Saturday 14, the show and pottery sale will run 10:00-5:00. There will be two demonstrations on this day: “Ohara–Presented by Minal Akkad” 11:00-12:00, and “Sogetsu–Presented by Joanne Caccavale” 2:00-3:00.

On the final day, Sunday15, the show and pottery sale will run 10:00-4:00. There will be a children’s workshop 1:00-2:00, “Ikebana for Kids (Ages 8-16)”. Please note that this class is geared toward children and their adult companions, and pre-registration is required for the children’s workshop. The final demonstration of the program will be “Sogetsu–Presented by Kaye Vosburgh” 2:00-3:00.
