Firefly Nights with Xerces Society at Dwelly Farm
June 16 @ 8:30 pm - 10:30 pm

Firefly Nights with Xerces Society at Dwelly Farm from Monday, June 16 through Friday, June 20 from 8:30 pm – 10:30pm.
North County Land Trust is excited to embark on a pilot program with Xerces Society to establish Dwelly Farm Conservation Area as a firefly sanctuary! Firefly sanctuaries are a relatively new concept to support protection of vitally important firefly habitat as many species populations and their habitats are in decline. In keeping with our goals at Dwelly, to restore and bolster native habitat and share examples of how others can too, we are working together with Xerces Society to support our small glowing firefly friends.
To begin our work with Xerces we will have a kickoff week of 5 evenings at Dwelly with Xerces Society firefly conservation biologist Richard Joyce. Volunteers will assist with a firefly survey, learning how to collect data for the Xerces Society’s Firefly Atlas community science project. The firefly field nights will take place between sunset (8:30 PM) and about 10:30 PM. Volunteers should come prepared for walking in low-light conditions on uneven terrain.
