Lion Dance at Leominster Library

April 13 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Gund Kwok Asian Womens Dance Troupe

The Leominster Library is hosting the Lion Dance with the Gund Kwok Asian Women’s Lion & Dragon Dance Troupe Saturday, April 13 from 1:00-2:30pm.

Families and children of all ages are welcome for a very special Lion Dance performance by the Gund Kwok Asian Women’s Lion & Dragon Dance Troupe of Boston. This program will include an interactive storytime and a costume try-on as well.

Gund Kwok was established in 1998 and is the first all-Asian Women’s Lion & Dragon Dance Troupe in the United States. Women were traditionally not allowed to learn or perform the lion dance because women were seen as weak and inferior. Gund Kwok was created by Sifu Cheng Imm Tan to showcase women’s power, creativity, and artistry. It was also created to provide Asian women the opportunity to push beyond stereotypical roles to live a bigger life for themselves in a mutually-supportive environment.

Gund Kwok it is known for its uniquely choreographed, colorful and inspiring performances that embrace but go beyond traditional performance styles.

No registration required.

This program is sponsored by a generous donation from the late Robert and Constance Cormier.
