Roots Rocker and “Cowpunk” Sarah Borges at Bull Run
April 22, 2023 @ 8:00 pm
Her newest album recorded with the same producer of Joan Jett, expect similar musical mastery from Sarah Borges at the Bull Run on April 22.
Sarah Borges’ unbridled joy at making music two decades into a storied career comes through loud and clear with her newest album “Together Alone.” Recorded remotely with longtime producer Eric “Roscoe” Ambel (Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, Steve Earle & the Dukes) and members of NRBQ and The Bottle Rockets, this album brims with gutsy life and beats the odds.
One way or another, Sarah connects with casual mastery. Whether it’s with the comrades she’s collaborated with over nearly 20 sparkling years of music-making, or the vivid portraits of people’s lives – and occasionally her own – she’s sketched in scores of emotionally resonant songs. But most of all, Borges has built a loyal following by connecting, through her own charismatic, down-to-earth spirit, with her audience – whether they’re longtime fans from back when she broke through with her terrific “Silver City” debut in 2004, or newcomers just now joining the party with her brand new 2022 album, “Together Alone”, her eighth. “Sarah’s a fearless writer and performer,” says producer Eric ‘Roscoe’ Ambel, “and she’s a very good musician.” As anyone familiar with Sarah’s songs and performances knows, genuinely soulful music that connects with us – and connects us to each other – can simultaneously steal, and heal, hearts. This connection is what has kept Sarah touring and making music for many years, and what keeps us coming back to see her do it.
Conduct even a quick Google search, and you’ll find that Sarah has been dubbed everything from an “Americana darling,” to a “roots rocker,” to a “cowpunk” by tastemakers as diverse as The New York Times and Sirius XM Outlaw Country Radio. With this latest release Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles show that all of those titles are well deserved.
Since bursting onto the national scene in 2005 as the lead singer of the Broken Singles, she hasn’t allowed a speck of dust to settle on her sound or her story. Instead, the Massachusetts native has just kept on moving and shaking, deftly navigating that weird road that winds from emerging artist to veteran performer. She’s made eight records and racked up countless touring miles. She’s collected shiny things, including an Americana Music Award nomination, multiple Boston Music Awards, and song credits on TV shows Sons of Anarchy and The Night Shift. Bands like Los Strait Jackets and Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys have brought her out on the road with them. Cowboy laureates Steve Berlin and Dave Alvin have lined up to collaborate with her.
“I’m not slowing down,” Borges says. “I’m gonna keep on seeking the next sound, the next song, the next chapter of who I am.”
Doors open at 6pm for dinner and seating. Showtime is 8pm.
