Jan Drake presents A Worcester County Civil War Story in Letters, based on her own family history, at the Gardner Museum 6:30-8pm Sept 7.

Retired librarian and hobby genealogist Jan Drake shares the letters of her great grandfather’s cousin, George H. Hardwood of North Brookfield, who enlisted in MA 36th Regiment of Volunteers, which served for three years (1862-1865), travelling with the Ninth Corps primarily under General Ambrose Burnside. Hardwood wrote home almost weekly from nine states.

There will be a reception starting at 6:30, with the program, which includes readings from the letters, as well as maps and photos of the people and places mentioned, starts at 7.

Signed copies of Drakes book (Remember Me to All the Friends: Civil War Letters from George W. Harwood, Massachusetts 36th Regiment) will be available for purchass.
