Classical Flute Orchestra at Groton Hills

March 19, 2023 @ 3:00 pm

Flute Orchestra

The third concert of the Flute Orchestra of Groton Hill’s Ruby-Silver Anniversary Season celebrates the versatility of the ensemble and the artistry of its members on March 19.

It’s a season of anniversaries as the ensemble marks its 40th year and Dr. Eileen Yarrison celebrates her 25th year as artistic director and conductor. The group is comprised of semi-professional and professional flutists who perform at Groton Hill and throughout the community.

Their program will feature works originally written for flute orchestra as well as pieces which were written for other instruments and reworked for flutes, including Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Procession of the Nobles,” Ravel’s “Minuet from Le Tombeau de Couperin,” and “Songs of the Ocean” by Ryohei Hirose.

This concert will feature two world premieres: “The World Is Here (The Cormorant’s Dream)”, by Ipswich (MA) composer Chris Florio, and Brandon J Nelson’s “An Harmonic Disquisition Upon Various Types of Cheese.”

Also, Nicole O’Toole and Jessica Volk will perform Cimarosa’s “Concerto for 2 Flutes and Orchestra,” and David Deifik will be the soloist on Gaubert’s “Madrigal for Flute and Flute Ensemble.”
