This event will feature the reading of three winning research essays by area high school students, as well as the presentation of awards by family members of the late Ray Fredette, a Gardner High School graduate of 1942, who sponsored the contest since 2006.
The Bowden Essay Contest honors Hervey Bowden, who taught history at Gardner High School for 40 years from 1927. Bowden instilled a love for history in many students, and cultivated excellence in all who passed through his classroom.
