Curation and Conservation at Fitchburg Art Museum
March 24 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Guest curator Elizabeth Athens and painting conservator Birgit Straehle illuminate a greater understanding of the exhibition Portrayed by Eakins: Ella Crowell as Model and Student, March 24, 2:00-3:30pm.
Straehle and Athens will draw on family history, archival discoveries, and material evidence to approach a greater understanding of the centerpiece of the exhibit, a rarely seen and recently conserved double-sided oil sketch of Ella Crowell, painted in the last years of her life by her uncle Thomas Eakins, one of the most celebrated and influential American artists. The exhibition will run during regular museum hours through June 2.
Admission for this program is included in general admission for the museum, which ranges from $0-$9.
While registration for this program is not required, it will help staff plan ahead. You can find registration for this program on the Fitchburg Art Museum website here.
