Author George Bennett will talk about his memoir and first-hand account of international long-haul trucking at Royalston Town Hall, March 15, 7:00-8:30pm.

From stories of local work in Britain, as well as long-haul journeys to Italy, communist Romania, and the Persian Gulf, to a look at the unique perspective truck drivers of the 70s and 80s had of foreign countries as they mixed with all sorts of working people on their home ground, Bennett’s Into the Distance: The Lost World of Long-haul Trucking offers a fascinating look into a world with no cellphones, and often not even access to a landline. Bennett’s account of this world starts with a break down in Saudi Arabia on his first trip to the Middle East, which he had to extricate himself from unaided, and spans to discussions on the fine line between being a loner and being lonely behind the wheel.
